Sustainable design best practices were incorporated in the following ways:
- LEED certified buildings
- Constructed wetlands
- Stream corridor and habitat preservation
- Native plant communities
- Invasive plant management plan
- Reduction of stormwater runoff, and stormwater capture for irrigation
The Switchyard Park Pavilion is solar powered and collects rainwater, which is stored in an underground cistern and pumped to the above ground water holding tank, where the water can be used in the community garden.
